Why Sigma Nu?

  • College

College is an exciting time that fosters the development of young men so they can join the professional world.  While this is an exciting experience, it can also be very difficult.  For many, they begin a new life far from home.  They may be completely alone and not know another person at school, they may have trouble adjusting to living on their own, and there may be difficultly adjusting to the pace of academics.

How does Sigma Nu fit in?  Sigma Nu at Virginia Tech is an honor fraternity that helps boys become men, aids in their personal and academic development, and provides friendship for life.  Want to become part of something bigger than yourself?  Want to get the most out of college?  Sigma Nu offers these very things.

  • Why Sigma Nu?

    Brotherhood

Sigma Nu is, first and above all, a brotherhood. The friendships and memories we form here will last a lifetime. A fraternity, for us, is all about supporting one another and working together to build a far richer college experience than any of us would have had otherwise. Furthermore, Sigma Nu is not just four years, it’s for life.

  • Become a Better Man

Sigma Nu will do more for you than any other fraternity. We focus on developing our members during all four years in college, not just during their semester of pledging.  The LEAD program is unlike any other program in any other fraternity. It focuses on developing you as a person, a leader, and a brother for all fours years in college while building skills for your career.

LEAD is a four-phase leadership development program for Sigma Nu collegians.  It was initiated in 1988 and is now used at all Sigma Nu chapters worldwide.  Each phase focuses on different topics that are applicable to what you are doing in school and with the organizations in which you are involved. The sessions are interactive and utilize experiential learning activities, situations, case studies and discussion to highlight issues you will face as a leader and brother.  You’ll learn by doing!

We believe that if you are going to put time and energy into an organization, it should help you.  That’s where LEAD comes in. Sigma Nu is committed to providing a balanced fraternity experience.  That means you will have opportunities to grow in all areas, not just a selected few.

    LEAD will help you…

    • Motivate yourself and others
    • Excel in every aspect of life and college
    • Develop who you are as a person, what you want, and how to get it
    • Support from alumni and brothers who have been where you are
    • Achieve a level of preparation for life after college

Sigma Nu is a national fraternity, with hundreds of chapters and hundreds of thousands of brothers across the U.S. and Canada. It was founded over a century ago, resting on the three core ideals of Love, Honor, and Truth.  Brothers from Sigma Nu can be found in prominent leadership positions in the fields of business, entertainment, military, sports, and government.  Chances are, you’ve met several Sigma Nu’s in your life without knowing it.

    Success

Sigma Nu’s are successful men, period.  If you look at our list of famous Sigma Nu alumni in the History section, you will see a list of very recognizable men who have achieved much during the course of their lives. That list is very condensed: there are tens of thousands of Sigma Nu men who have made great contributions to this country and world.

Let’s face it, the goal of college is to get a job.  Our chapter has its own stories of success.  Many of our members have already gained “real world” experience through internships with major corporations.  Several of our members have multiple Dean’s List appearances for academic excellence.  Below is a list of companies that our members have had the chance to work with over the past few years...

    • ExxonMobil
    • Kraton Polymers
    • General Motors
    • Rio Tinto Mining
    • Mosaic Mining
    • Schnabel Engineering
    • The Haskell Company
