The History of Sigma Nu at Virginia Tech
How We Began
The history of our chapter of Sigma Nu at Virginia Tech actually begins before the Chapter was affiliated with Sigma Nu. In 1961, a group of men who lived in our current fraternity house collectively began to organize a new fraternity, Pi Kappa. During the winter and spring quarters, these men wrote the constitution and bi-laws for this new fraternity. The men expanded their new organization for nine years, initiating new members and growing. In the late 1960s, these men began looking for a national fraternity to become affiliated with. In 1970, Sigma Nu Nationals officially recognized Pi Kappa as a colony of Sigma Nu. In 1971, the colony of Sigma Nu officially received its charter from Sigma Nu Nationals as the Theta Xi Chapter, chapter number 175. Since then, there have been over 500 brothers of Sigma Nu, Theta Xi Chapter at Virginia Tech.
